THE LOWE HOTEL, the crown jewel of Point Pleasant's Main Street, opened to the public on October 8, 1904 as the Spencer Hotel, named for project financier and local businessman John Samuel Spencer. Thoroughly equipped with modern lighting, plumbing & furnishings from the outset, it was hailed as one of the most magnificent hotels in the region, second to none in WV. Stained glass windows, said to be original Tiffany pieces, adorn the lobby and mezzanine, and the unique lobby fireplace comes from the famed Rookwood Pottery Company of Cincinnati. The hotel has 26' coffered ceiling, banquet room, 4th floor ballroom, Presidential Suite, 5 store fronts & 38-40 bedrooms/some suites (includes 3 BR) all furnished in period decor. This magnificent building is full of history and charm. Because the hotel is listed in the National Register of Historic Places it may qualify for both Fed/State Tax Credits of 45% (may go up to 55%) & WV Tourism Sales Tax Credit of 25%.
